Spring Is In The Air

This is my favorite season of the year! I love the warmer weather, all the flowers and being able to go outside again. The only thing I dislike about spring is that my allergies are horrible and I usually end up getting sick for a few weeks and then it takes a few more weeks to completely get over it.

I have been really sick for the last two weeks. I am finally not quite as congested today, but I can't hear anything. I hate being sick because, not only do I feel bad, but I miss out on important family time.

Today was the annual Easter Egg Hunt for church and I missed that. Later this afternoon DS and his daddy went to see the new TMNT movie without me. We had been promising him for weeks that we would take him this week, but I had no idea I would be feeling so bad. He felt bad I couldn't go, but when given the choice to go ahead and see the movie or wait until Mom was feeling better, he chose what any other normal 7 year old would've done! LOL

They did have a wonderful time and DS told me all about the movie when they came back home. I did find out, too, that something major happened on the way into the movie theater. It seems that Dad was giving DS a hug and telling him how excited he was about the movie when DS pulled away and told Dad that he was embarrassing him!!! (So glad it wasn't me!!! LOL) I guess our little boy is really starting to grow up now!!!

Even though I wasn't able to hang out with my guys today, I am still thankful that they got to spend some quality time together. They even wrestled and played ping pong after they got home tonight! It's always so sweet to see the two of them together and DH is such an awesome Dad!!!

*****************************

Today was also a day of remembrance for me. Two years ago one of my very best friends from high school (my very best in 10th grade!) died of cancer. I hadn't seen her in years, but had tried to get back in touch with her and could never track her down. I guess I can see now how God spared me the pain of seeing her go through all that, but at the same time I feel bad that I couldn't have been there for her and helped her during that time.

It does make me sad that she died so young. I feel sad for her husband and her parents (she was their only child... she was adopted). I feel sad that she didn't get a chance to have any children of her own. It also makes me sad that we can't talk on the phone, have lunch or watch each others lives change as we get older. She had so much to live for and now she's not here anymore.

I am glad, though, that I know she was saved! I know that even though I may not be able to see her again in this lifetime, that I will be able to see her again one day. I am glad that she's in heaven and she's not suffering anymore.

Her death has made me realize how short life really is. I realized that no matter how young you are, you never know when today will be your last on earth. I am so thankful that I found Jesus and that when it is my turn to go I will be with Him and I'll be able to see and be with all my loved ones I am missing now.

Making The Most Of Your Day

"Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein."
- H. Jackson Brown

(Wow!!! What an eye opener!!!)

Spiritual Growth

A few days ago while I was talking on the phone to my younger sister, DS came running through the house yelling for me. When I finally found him, he said, "Mom, tell whoever you're talking to that I just read the entire scripture for David and Goliath!" After I got off the phone, he was still very excited and then asked that I email "everyone we know" and let them know of his accomplishment.

I let him know how proud I was of him and I was so amazed at how excited he was. He has been reading for quite some time, but nothing has ever made him go on about reading like this before!

He has always loved the story of David and Goliath since very the first time I read it to him. We have read many books, many times with this story in it, but this time it was different.

As his mom, I am very excited for him! It's not only that he can read his favorite bible story, but the fact, too, that he is now learning to feed himself spiritually. He is only 7, but he already prays every day and now he's beginning to have a hunger for word. How awesome it that!!!

As for telling my sister, sending out the emails and even writing about it here, I think it is very important that we support our children especially when it comes to their spiritual growth. When they cut their first tooth, say their first word or even take their first step, we tell everyone and we make a huge deal about it. I think it's very important that they see us do this when they spiritually grow as well. To me, the other day was a very important milestone and one that I am sure I'll never forget. It is one that I will write down and I will be documenting in his scrapbook.

The wonderful thing is that even if I never say another word about it, I am sure he'll remember that day and that accomplishment for the rest of his life!

I'm Reminded...

The Anchor Holds

I have journeyed
Through the long dark night
Out on the open sea
By faith alone
Sight unknown
And yet his eyes were watching me.
The anchor holds
though the ship is battered.
The anchor holds
though the sails are torn.
I have fallen on my knees
as I faced the raging seas.
The anchor holds
in spite of the storm.
I've had visions,
I've had dreams.
I’ve even held them in my hand,
but I never knew
They would slip right through
like they were only grains of sand.
The anchor holds
though the ship is battered.
The anchor holds
though the sails are torn.
I have fallen on my knees
as I faced the raging seas.
The anchor holds
in spite of the storm.
I have been young,
but I am older now
and there has been beauty
these eyes have seen.
But it was in the night
through the storms of my life
oh that’s where God proved his love to me.
The anchor holds
though the ship is battered.
The anchor holds
though the sails are torn.
I have fallen on my knees
as I faced the raging seas.
The anchor holds
in spite of the storm.

I have been really sick for almost a week and, honestly, last night I was becoming a little bit discouraged. After I had prayed once again for rest and relief, God began to speak to me in ways that I had forgotten He could. He then reminded of this song that not only applied to this past week, but also of every trial or difficult situation I have ever gone through.

How awesome it is that no matter what we’ve been through or what we’re going through at any given moment, we can rest assured that God is the one holding us in place and that He won’t allow us to go anywhere unless He decides to take us there.

Happy 3rd Birthday!!! :-)

As you may have guessed, March is a very busy month for our family as far as birthdays are concerned. The month of June is just as busy, but August is the busiest with 8 birthdays and 3 wedding anniversaries!!!

Today, DS and I visited with my Mom and Dad. After lunch, we visited my younger sister and her 4 boys because it was her youngest son 3rd birthday.

We have a total of 8 nephews and no nieces!!! Including DS, my parents have 9 grandsons and no granddaughters as of yet. We are not sure when, or if, God is planning on adding anymore girls to our family anytime soon, but we are thankful that we do have so many wonderful boys to continue our family line!

Anyway, we visited with my sister and her family for a couple of hours and then we went over to my older sister's house and visited with her and two of my other nephews. After that we went back to Mom's where I got to see two more nephews.

It's a great day when I get to see all of the nephews and today was one of those days!!! :-)

My Future Grandchildren

DS informed me a couple of days ago that I will be having 10 grandchildren - 5 boys and 5 girls.

The boys' names will be:
Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
Acts

And the girls' names will be:
Genesis
Exodus
Leviticus
Numbers
Deuteronomy

I encouraged him to discuss this with his future wife before making any definite decisions!!! :-)

Remembering When...

DH and I were going through some music that he used to play and we used to sing at our old church in Abilene, TX. As we were going through the songs, I came across a story that I'm almost certain I received way back then (8-10 years ago). It had somehow got mixed in with the sheets of music. Usually if I receive an email or come across a story or poem that speaks to me at the time, I'll save it and print it out for future reference.

After I read it, the story brought back so many memories. As I remembered the time we spent in Abilene, God reminded me of what my spiritual walk was like back then and what He was teaching me at that time. I was also reminded of where He took me while I was on that particular journey in my life.

It is so neat how the things I was going through back then and the journey I'm on today are so different, but also so similar in other ways. I'm learning that today is a continuation of what God started so many years ago and the beginning of what He'll be doing for years to come.

I wanted to share this story and hopefully it will encourage you as much as it has encouraged me!!!

When the house lights dimmed and the concert was about to begin, the mother returned to her seat and discovered that the child was missing. Suddenly, the curtains parted and spotlights focused on the impressive Steinway on stage. In horror, the mother saw her little boy sitting at the keyboard, innocently picking out “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”

At that moment, the great piano master made his entrance, quickly moved to the piano, and whispered in the boy’s ear, “Don’t quit. Keep playing.” Then, leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in the bass part. Soon his right hand reached around to the other side of the child, and he added a running obbligato.

Together, the old master and the young novice transformed what could have been a frightening situation into a wonderfully creative experience. The audience was so mesmerized that they couldn’t recall what else the great master played. Only the classic, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”

Perhaps that’s the way it is with God. What we can accomplish on our own is hardly noteworthy. We try our best, but the results aren’t always graceful, flowing music. However, with the hand of the Master, our life’s work can truly be beautiful.

The next time you set out to accomplish great feats, listen carefully. You may hear the voice of the Master, whispering in your ear, “Don’t quit. Keep playing.”

May you feel His arms around you and know that His hands are there, helping you turn your feeble attempts into true masterpieces. Remember, God doesn’t seem to call the equipped, rather He equips the ‘called’.

HAPPY 14TH BIRTHDAY!!!

I hope you have the best birthday ever and I pray that God will bless you with many, many more! I also pray that He would be ahead of you everywhere you go and in all that you do. You are a miracle straight from the hands of God and I know He is going to use you in so many wonderful ways throughout your life! I love you so much and I am so thankful that God has allowed me to have a nephew as awesome as you are!!!

Recent Words of Wisdom From DS

A few things we thought we knew, but DS has informed us we've been wrong about -

Color was invented in the year 1933.

The Eiffel Tower was built in the 1980's by a guy named Sean Buckwiff.

Deja vu is when you don't know it, but someone else is thinking the same thing you are and says it at the same time you do. (Got that???)

Quick Answer To Prayer

How awesome is it when God answers your prayer as soon as you've prayed???

A little while ago, DS started complaining with a tummy ache and layed down on the couch. After he was settled, I decided to do my bible reading and prayer time. As I prayed, I asked God to heal DS's tummy among other things and as soon as I opened my eyes, DS (who was unaware of what I was doing) yelled to me that God had healed his tummy and that he was feeling much better!

I am so amazed, but I am also reminded of how close God really is and that He really is listening!!! There are so many times I've had to wait and am still waiting, but it's times like this when I am reminded that when God gets ready to do it, He will do it!!!

Time To Blog Again...

Just thought I'd write something this week. It's seems like this is becoming a weekly or bi-weekly blog!!! LOL

Well, I've started my spring cleaning a little bit early this year. We have been in our house for almost a year now and there are still things I haven't gone through. I decided to start with DS's room and then work my way out, but I have been working on that for the last 3 days and there is no apparent end in sight at this point!!! LOL

Not too much else is going on right now. My DH is working a lot so DS and I are spending lots of time together. I watched a Zorro movie with him the other night and I actually enjoyed it! It was a little bit different than what I normally like to watch, but it was really good.

We are also looking forward to the daylight savings time in another week or so! It'll be so nice to have a little bit of daylight when DH gets home from work. He loves to take DS outside and throw the football around. I love watching them through the window while I cook supper and sometimes I do get to join in the fun. Of course, DS has already informed me that Moms don't play football because they all throw like girls!!! LOL

I will close for now, but will post again soon.
